Motherhood is a big deal. It is about giving attention, care, understanding, protection, food and a whole lot of love. An even important responsibility is to be in-charge of a mother.
I’m not talking about humans here, I’m talking about our best friends- dogs.
Work-wise, October is a busy month for me, like festive months usually are. I have to try and maintain a balance between work and my personal life. October 2017 wasn’t much different. I was swimming in work commitments, photography sessions, editing, managing accounts and making sure I delivered to all of my clients’ needs. When I got some time to myself, I happened to check Snapchat and found pictures of delightful puppies on my cousin, Nidhi’s stories. Their cuteness was overwhelming so I called her immediately. I came to know that those puppers belonged to Nidhi’s neighbor’s dog, Cookie, who had just given birth.
I visited them later because I can’t resist being around newborns- humans or animals. Nothing makes me happier than being around tiny little hands, feet or paws. Here there were nine of them! When I’m around new life I feel peaceful. There is only love and, the need to give and receive love in their tiny souls. They’re born perfect. There is no greed, no material want, no negativity in them, only purity. It is the same for humans and animals alike. The only difference is our kids grow up and learn to unlearn the innocence to survive in the world, puppies never do.
These puppies and their mother, Cookie a.k.a. Coco, were a part of Deepak and Jassie’s family. They loved and cared for her and each of those puppies. Jassie’s sister even hand-stitched clothes for the puppies to wear.
One interesting thing I learned was that breastfeeding for dogs is as uncomfortable as it is for women. Coco had nine puppies running behind her and latching on to her for milk. It seemed like hard work. It reminded me that Coco was being just a mother. No matter what form it takes motherhood is about experiencing the pain of birthing, providing nourishment, nurturing the babies, sheltering their most precious and doting on them.
Soon, these puppies would get strong and healthy and will be put up for adoption because one human house is too small for 10 dogs. They will be given away to be cared for by people who love and need a four legged puppy in their lives.
